iKKi Duo

ABOUT // HAKKINDA
iKKi Duo is an experimental improvisation and comprovisation duo featuring cello, piano, everyday objects and electroacoustics.
Zeynep AyÅŸe HatipoÄŸlu (cello, objects & electronics) and Fulya Uçanok (piano, objects & electronics) are composer-performers and artist-researchers. The duo brings together their multiple musical backgrounds shaped by both formal training and exploratory practice. Both artists began their formal training in conservatories, with HatipoÄŸlu specializing in Eurogenetic and Turkish Classical Music in cello and Uçanok in Eurogenetic classical music in piano. Over time, both have expanded their performance practice to embrace a wide range of sonic approaches, including expanded instrumentation, electroacoustics, within contemporary free improvisation, with an openness to multiple stylistic influences.

Their collaborative journey began during the 2016 OneBeat artist residency in Istanbul and has since evolved into a long-standing sonic sisterhood. As soloists and collaborators, they have released instrumental and electroacoustic works. iKKi Duo's projects also intersect with movement, collaborating with dancers and choreographers, including their album Wandering Rocks. Both HatipoÄŸlu and Uçanok completed their PhDs in artistic research in 2022 in Istanbul, each focusing on improvisation and composition-based practices from different perspectives. iKKi Duo have been members of the collective Klank.ist ensemble, composing and performing.

iKKi Duo continues to grow through co-authored, interdisciplinary projects that invite curiosity, listening, and playful experimentation, continually rethinking and re-imagining what composition, improvisation and performance can be.
